چکیده

Objectives: Inferior oblique muscle overaction (IOOA) is a common ocular motility disorder. Ocular Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials (oVEMP) are tests that evaluate the reflex pathway between utricular macula and inferior to detect vestibular diseases. Our study of great importance as it first in literature effect on oVEMP parameters. Methods: Thirty-five patients with unilateral (IOOA group) 18 healthy volunteers without any neurological or vestibulocochlear disease were included this study. All evaluated oVEMP. Results: No statistically significant difference was found n1 latency, p1 n1-p1 latency measurement values participants (p>0,05). A amplitude patient groups (non-squint eyes, squint eyes) control (p-value 0.038). Conclusion: In IOOA patients, vestibulo-ocular may be affected, symptoms develop thus o-VEMP responses affected. careful anamnesis should taken kept mind amplitudes asymmetries significantly higher when performed Keywords: o-VEMP, Strabismus, overaction, Balance, Vertigo

Ocular Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials

Introduction Diagnostic testing of the vestibular system is an essential component of treating patients with balance dysfunction. Until recently, testing methods primarily evaluated the integrity of the horizontal semicircular canal, which is only a portion of the vestibular system. Recent advances in technology have afforded clinicians the ability to assess otolith function through vestibular ...

Vestibular evoked myogenic potentials in patients with rheumatoid arthritis

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune systemic disease. Most common autoimmune diseases are multisystem disorders that may also present with otological manifestations, and autoimmune inner ear disease accompanied by vestibular dysfunction. This study aimed to compare the vestibular function between RA patients and normal subjects using cervical vestibular evoked myogenic...

Cervical and ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potentials in multiple sclerosis participants

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neurological disease that affects brain and spinal cord. The infratentorial region contains the cerebellum and brainstem. Vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMPs) are short-latency myogenic responses. Cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potential (cVEMP) is a manifestation of vestibulocolic reflex and ocular vestibular evoked myogenic pote...

The Effect of Cognitive Tasks on the Ocular Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials in Healthy People

Introduction: The majority of the daily life activities involve the concurrent performance of simultaneously challenging motor and cognitive activities, such as talking while walking, which requires the vestibular system for balance. Functional balance allows the brain to interpret and integrate the sensory information from our physical and social environment. This study aimed to investig...

Vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW This article reviews the literature on vestibular-evoked myogenic potential testing, a short latency electromyogram evoked by high acoustic stimuli and recorded via surface electrodes over the sternocleidomastoid muscle. Applications and refinements of this technique are described for different pathologies and in adults and children. RECENT FINDINGS Various techniques for el...
